A photo taken in front of the ‘Happy Birthday background’ adds to the memory of their special day. Ronnie P. leads all the residents in a rousing rendition of ‘happy birthday’. ABOUT RONNIE POWLESLAND
Ron was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario and moved to Winnipeg in 1977, where he continues to live. As a teenager Ron had given up on his NHL aspirations and turned his attention to dramatic arts. While in high school Ron won an Ontario Best Acting Award sparking an inner confidence to pursue theatre at the University of Winnipeg. Ron then went on to perform in professional acting and musical theatre shows, for several years. Wedding bells directed his life toward a more traditional lifestyle, beyond the theatre stage. While helping his wife raise a large family of 6 kids and now 15 grandchildren, singing at weddings was a regular occurrence. Now in retirement, Ron is returning to his theatre roots. In 2019 Ron wrote, produced and performed in a cabaret show that was presented in both the Winnipeg and Edmonton Fringe Festivals. The CBC reviewed the show and gave a 4 star rating, very unusual for a first year participant. Since the success of the cabaret show, people have asked Ron to perform a singing show, which brings us to today.
